Cabinet Painting & Refinishing

If your cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, replacing them is usually the most expensive way to fix a kitchen you have stopped liking. Refinishing gets you the same visual change for a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the disruption, and a properly sprayed cabinet finish is harder and smoother than anything you can achieve with a brush.

How we do it

Doors and drawer fronts come off and get labeled so every one goes back exactly where it started. Hardware comes off. Everything gets degreased, because a kitchen cabinet has years of cooking residue on it and nothing bonds to that. Then we scuff-sand every surface to give the primer tooth, fill any damage, and spray a bonding primer made specifically for cabinetry.

The doors are sprayed flat in a controlled space so there are no runs and no brush marks. The boxes and face frames are sprayed in place with the rest of the kitchen fully masked off. Between coats everything gets sanded again. The result is a hard, even, factory-looking finish rather than something that reads as painted furniture.

What we can refinish

  • Kitchen cabinets, islands and pantry doors
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Built-in bookcases, entertainment centers and mudroom lockers
  • Laundry room and utility cabinetry
  • Interior doors and trim to match

What to expect while it is happening

A typical kitchen takes about four to seven days depending on the door count. Your kitchen is usable for most of that, though you will be without cabinet doors for a stretch in the middle. We tell you up front which days those are so you can plan around them. Hardware goes back on last, and if you are switching to new pulls we will drill and fit them.

Is your kitchen a good candidate?

Solid wood, MDF and most factory-finished cabinets refinish beautifully. Thermofoil and some laminates are trickier and occasionally are not worth it. We will tell you honestly which category yours fall into during the estimate rather than find out halfway through. Call (501) 453-3565 and we will take a look.

Cabinet Painting & Refinishing FAQ

Is refinishing really cheaper than new cabinets?

Substantially. Refinishing a kitchen typically costs a fraction of replacement because you are keeping the boxes, the layout and the countertops. The exact saving depends on door count and condition.

Will I be able to use my kitchen?

Mostly. The sink, range and refrigerator stay available. There is a stretch in the middle of the job where the doors are off being sprayed, and we will tell you which days those are.

Can you paint oak cabinets without the grain showing?

Yes, but it takes an extra step. Open-grain oak needs a grain filler before priming if you want a glass-smooth finish. We will quote it either way and let you decide.

How durable is a painted cabinet finish?

Sprayed with a proper bonding primer and a cabinet-grade topcoat, it holds up to daily kitchen use for years. It needs about two weeks to fully cure, so we ask you to be gentle with the doors at first.

Can you change my hardware at the same time?

Yes. If you are moving from knobs to pulls we will fill the old holes during prep and drill the new pattern before finishing.
