Drywall & Sheetrock Repair

Most painters will patch a hole. Fewer will make the patch disappear. The difference is in how far the compound is feathered out and how carefully the texture is matched, and it is the reason a lot of repairs are obvious the moment light rakes across the wall.

We do drywall as its own trade, not as an afterthought before painting. That means we can take on the repairs other crews would rather skip, and it means the wall you get back reads as one continuous surface.

What we repair

  • Nail pops and screw pops across ceilings and walls
  • Settlement cracks, especially above doors and windows
  • Water damage from roof leaks, plumbing failures and overflowed tubs
  • Door-handle holes, furniture damage and accidental impacts
  • Corner bead damage on outside corners
  • Failed or peeling tape joints
  • Ceiling texture repair, including popcorn and knockdown matching
  • Openings left behind after electrical, plumbing or HVAC work

How a repair actually goes

We cut back to sound material, because patching over a compromised edge just moves the problem a few inches. Larger openings get backed and a new piece of rock fitted, screwed and taped. Then compound goes on in coats, each one wider than the last, with drying time in between. Rushing that is what produces a patch you can see from across the room.

Texture matching is the part that takes judgment. Orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and popcorn all behave differently, and hitting the match takes practice and a willingness to redo it if the first pass is not right. Then we prime the repair, because bare compound absorbs paint at a completely different rate to the wall around it and will flash badly if you skip that step.

Water damage

If the damage came from water, the leak has to be fixed and the cavity has to be properly dry before we close it up. We will tell you if we think something is still wet. Sealing moisture inside a wall creates a much more expensive problem than the one you called about.

Drywall & Sheetrock Repair FAQ

Can you match my existing ceiling texture?

In most cases, yes. Knockdown and orange peel match reliably. Popcorn is harder because the aggregate size varies by era, but we get very close and prime the whole ceiling so it reads as one surface.

Do I need to fix the leak before you repair the drywall?

Yes. We will patch the drywall, but if the source of the water is still active the repair will fail. We are happy to look and tell you what we think is going on.

Why do nail pops keep coming back?

Because the fastener is moving with the framing as it expands and contracts. The fix is to add a screw nearby into solid framing, remove or reset the popped fastener, then patch. Just filling the hole will pop again.

Will the repair be visible after painting?

It should not be. That is what the feathering, the texture match and the spot-priming are for. On a wall with a sheen higher than eggshell we will often recommend painting the full wall corner to corner so there is no chance of flashing.

How much dust does this make?

Sanding drywall compound is dusty work. We mask openings, cover floors and contain the area, and we clean up at the end of each day rather than at the end of the job.
